The trade dispute between the US and Canada has further escalated. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that equal countervailing tariffs will be imposed on imported goods from the US starting September 8. “We are reluctant to take this step because we are aware that it will drive up costs for Canadians, reduce purchasing options, hurt innocent US businesses and states, and hinder cooperation between the two countries,” Carney said on Saturday. He said that the retaliatory tariffs will mainly focus on steel, dairy products, household appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp, paper products, and electronic products. More details will be announced in the next few days.
