Listen to the news

TFI International Inc. (TSE:TFII) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the Independent Director, Rosemary Turner, recently bought a whopping CA$1.4m worth of stock, at a price of CA$193. That increased their holding by a full 2,368%, which arguably implies the sort of confidence required for a shy sweet-natured nerd to ask the most popular kid in the school to go out on a date.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At TFI International

The President, Alain Bedard, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$8.9m worth of shares at a price of CA$232 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (CA$188). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 14.67k shares worth CA$2.5m. But insiders sold 114.63k shares worth CA$23m. In total, TFI International insiders sold more than they bought over the last year. The average sell price was around US$203. It's not particularly great to see insiders were selling shares at below recent prices. Of course, the sales could be motivated for a multitude of reasons, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions. Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. TFI International insiders own 6.3% of the company, currently worth about CA$955m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
