A burglary occurred at a museum in the Spanish medieval town of Villena. A collection of precious 3,000-year-old artifacts, including bracelets, bowls, bottles, and other items mostly made of gold, were stolen within a few minutes. This batch of artifacts was discovered in 1963 and dates back to the Bronze Age around 1000 BC. “We are extremely saddened — I'm still shaking as I speak,” said Fulgencio Cerdan, mayor of Villena near Alicante in the Valencia region. “It's part of our cultural heritage.” Seldan said that the gold contained in these artifacts could be worth up to 1.7 million euros, but their historical value is immeasurable. The Spanish National Guard is investigating the theft, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, and is believed to have been carried out by professional thieves. There was also a sensational theft at the Louvre in France last year, when a famous ancient crown was stolen.
