According to preliminary estimates from the EU Sugar Market Observatory's latest market dynamics report, EU sugar production is expected to drop 19% year-on-year during the 2026/27 sugar production season. Production is estimated at 13.4 million tons, which is lower than the estimated 16.6 million tons for the 25/26 sugar production season. The estimated import volume is 2.35 million tons, up from 1.73 million tons for the 25/26 sugar season. According to the latest MARS communiqué released on Monday, EU sweet menu production is expected to be 72.2 tonnes per hectare in 2026, down 11.5% year over year. France, the largest producer of sugar in the EU, is expected to drop 15% year-on-year in production.
