On the evening of August 27, the State Administration of Immigration issued Notice No. 5 of 2026 — at about 10:30 on August 26. A large-scale landslide disaster occurred on the Nepalese side, causing major casualties and loss of connectivity at Geelong Port in Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region. Currently, roads and communications have been interrupted at the Geelong Port, and secondary disasters are still likely to occur. Emergency and disaster relief work is being carried out in an intense and orderly manner. In order to prevent harm to the lives and property of people visiting the border control area, affect the development of emergency and disaster relief work, and maintain traffic order in the border area, the State Administration of Immigration decided to suspend the issuance of permits to the electronic border control area in Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region starting at 00:00 on August 28, 2026. Holders of electronic border control area passes that have already been issued, including Shigatse City, are not allowed to travel to these areas for the time being. Recovery times will be announced separately. We hereby announce it.
