On August 28, Li Chao, deputy director of the Policy Research Office of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated at the NDRC's August regular press conference that the so-called “China squeeze” is another attack and discrediting China based on a zero-sum game. The purpose is to maintain its own hegemony, attack or even deny other countries' legitimate right to development, and disrupt the overall situation of global cooperation. First, we insist on being based on our own national conditions and development needs, and we are unswervingly promoting Chinese-style modernization. There are no universal modernization standards in the world. According to the “China squeeze” rhetoric, all countries must use the same model and the same standards to advance modernization; otherwise, it will squeeze other countries' development space. This logic is completely wrong. Second, adhere to the concept and value orientation of putting the people first. China is unswervingly moving away from a new type of industrialization adapted to its own conditions and the needs of its stage of development. The author of the “China squeeze” argument believes that not following the development path of individual developed countries would be squeezing other countries' development space; this is completely untenable. As a country with a population of over 1.4 billion, our industrialization has always aimed to meet the growing needs of the largest number of people for a better life, and has always focused its economic development on the real economy. Third, insist on mutual benefit and win-win situation, and the United States share common ground. China has always unswervingly contributed to global development and prosperity. China has always been a partner in the global South's modernization path and a sharer of development opportunities. We support countries on the path of modernization in line with their own conditions through practical actions. China uses practical actions to build a ladder for the industrialization and green development of developing countries. China's contribution is real, and China's opportunities are palpable. In the first seven months of this year, China's imports and exports to more than 180 countries and regions maintained growth. In the future, China will continue to contribute more to world development and human progress.
