The Zhitong Finance App learned that biotech company Electra Therapeutics Inc. (ETRA.US) has officially submitted an initial public offering (IPO) application to raise funds for its clinical-stage immune-mediated disease and cancer drug pipeline using Dongfeng's strong IPO performance in the biotech sector this year.
The San Francisco-based company's main drug candidate is a monoclonal antibody designed for patients with secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (ShLH), according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. This disease is a serious hyperinflammatory syndrome. Currently, there is no widely approved treatment plan, and the survival rate of patients is extremely low.
The documents also show that the company is conducting phase 2/3 clinical trials of the drug in newly diagnosed patients. The treatment has been certified as a “breakthrough therapy” by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which can accelerate its development and review process.
According to documents, Electra completed Series C financing led by the investment division of French pharmaceutical giant SNY.US (SNY.US), OrbiMed Advisors, and Redmile Group in October of last year, raising about US$182.7 million. As of June 30 this year, the company held approximately US$97.7 million in cash and cash equivalents.
According to compiled data, the cumulative amount of capital raised by US biotech and pharmaceutical companies in IPOs this year has reached 6.8 billion US dollars, with an average weighted return of nearly 70%. Among them, the stock price of hair loss drug developer Veradermics Inc. (MANE.US) has soared 476% since its launch in February, leading the sector.
Analysts Sam Fazeli and Cindy Wu said, “Biotech IPOs are a barometer for measuring the health of the industry. The average funding scale of US biotech IPOs in 2026 reached US$329 million, the highest level since 2018, far exceeding the bright years in recent years. It indicates a strong market at the end of the year, and the number of listings is expected to reach 30 companies throughout the year.”
Electra's lead underwriters for this IPO include Jefferies Financial Group, Toronto Dominion Bank, Evercore Inc., and Cantor Fitzgerald. The company expects its shares to be listed and traded on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the stock code “ETRA.”
