The Broadcom Narrative leans on custom AI hardware and VMware software working together so enterprises can run demanding workloads on their own terms. This Kyndryl deal sits directly in that story because it is about turning VMware Cloud Foundation into real, AI-ready private and hybrid clouds for large customers.
"Broadcom's successful integration and rapid enterprise adoption of VMware Cloud Foundation is enabling a transition to recurring software revenues, with over 90% of its top 10,000 accounts committed and ongoing deployment likely to drive sustained margin expansion in the high margin infrastructure software segment..."

This partnership strengthens the Narrative’s software pillar. It gives Broadcom a large services partner to design, deploy and operate VMware Cloud Foundation environments, which supports the idea that VMware can shift more of Broadcom’s business toward recurring, higher margin software rather than one off chip sales. It also speaks to analyst views that AI demand and private cloud projects can support revenue growth across both semiconductors and infrastructure software.
At the same time, it does not resolve the biggest concerns around customer concentration and high debt that analysts already flag as risks. The alliance depends on enterprises choosing VMware based private and hybrid setups rather than rival stacks from Microsoft or Amazon. It also still needs to show that AI governance and cyber recovery services translate into durable, broad based adoption beyond early flagship wins. The open question is how much this kind of partnership can offset the risk that a few large AI customers drive too much of Broadcom’s future.
For Broadcom, this update can look like either welcome proof that the VMware and AI story is gaining traction or a reminder that execution and concentration risks are still front and center.
