The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Hong Kong Government today (August 31) announced the financial situation for the first four months of this fiscal year (that is, as of July 31, 2026). The expenditure and revenue for the first four months of this fiscal year were HK$249.7 billion and HK$193.6 billion, respectively. A deficit of HK$19.6 billion was recorded after taking into account the proceeds of issuing government bonds of HK$48.2 billion and repayment of the principal amount of HK$11.7 billion on government bonds. The financial reserve was HK$645.9 billion on July 31, 2026.

A Hong Kong government spokesperson said that the deficit up to July was mainly due to the fact that most of the main income, such as salaries tax and profits tax, was collected in the latter half of the fiscal year.
