Insiders who bought Piche Resources Limited (ASX:PR2) stock in the last 12 months were richly rewarded last week. The company's market value increased by AU$9.1m as a result of the stock's 95% gain over the same period. Put another way, the original AU$211.5k acquisition is now worth AU$505.3k.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Piche Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent purchase by Stanley Macdonald is the biggest insider purchase of Piche Resources shares that we've seen in the last year. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (AU$0.043), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

In the last twelve months Piche Resources insiders were buying shares, but not selling. Does Piche Resources Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Piche Resources insiders own about AU$2.3m worth of shares. That equates to 19% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Piche Resources Insiders?

The recent insider purchases are heartening. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. However, we note that the company didn't make a profit over the last twelve months, which makes us cautious. Insiders likely see value in Piche Resources shares, given these transactions (along with notable insider ownership of the company). So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
