The State Information Office held a press conference on the status of China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation, the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo, and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit. Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong explained that in recent years, cooperation between China and ASEAN in various fields has achieved fruitful results. First, the scale of trade has reached a new high. In 2025, the bilateral trade volume between China and ASEAN broke through the trillion US dollar mark for the first time, reaching 1.05 trillion US dollars, an increase of 7.4% over the previous year. China has maintained the status of ASEAN's largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, and ASEAN has been China's largest trading partner for 6 consecutive years. From January to July of this year, total trade between China and ASEAN reached 744.41 billion US dollars, up 24.7% year on year, accounting for 21.8% of China's total foreign trade during the same period. Second, the level of investment cooperation continues to rise. As of July this year, the cumulative amount of two-way investment between China and ASEAN and the cumulative turnover of completed engineering contracts by Chinese enterprises in ASEAN have both exceeded 515 billion US dollars. A number of major cooperation projects are progressing steadily. The Malaysian East Coast Railway project is progressing at more than 94%, Indonesia's Yawan High Speed Rail has sent more than 15 million passengers, and the China-Laos 500 kV networking project has officially been implemented. Cooperation between China and ASEAN in emerging fields has been effective, and the two sides have further strengthened their position as the most active partners in mutual investment. Third, production and supply chain cooperation is deepening. China and ASEAN firmly support multilateralism and free trade to jointly address global economic and trade challenges. China, Malaysia, China and Indonesia's “Two Countries Double Park” project and the construction of the China-Laos Cross-border Economic Cooperation Zone are progressing steadily. China and ASEAN continue to deepen the integration of industrial chains and value chains, and jointly maintain the stability and smooth flow of regional production and supply chains, injecting strong momentum into regional and global economic growth. Fourth, the process of regional economic integration is speeding up. The 3.0-version upgrade protocol for the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area has been officially signed, and the free trade cooperation and regional economic integration process between the two sides will expand into emerging fields such as digital, green, standards, production and supply chains. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has been implemented with high quality, and the dividends of the agreement have continued to be released. The joint construction of the “Belt and Road” has been fruitful, and subregional cooperation such as the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and the China-ASEAN Eastern Growth Area continues to deepen. The level of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation between China and ASEAN countries has been further enhanced.
