Today is shaping up negative for Shanghai Chicmax Cosmetic Co., Ltd. (HKG:2145) shareholders, with the analysts delivering a substantial negative revision to this year's forecasts. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) estimates were cut sharply as analysts factored in the latest outlook for the business, concluding that they were too optimistic previously.
Following the latest downgrade, Shanghai Chicmax Cosmetic's ten analysts currently expect revenues in 2026 to be CN¥8.7b, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are anticipated to tumble 23% to CN¥1.32 in the same period. Before this latest update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of CN¥11b and earnings per share (EPS) of CN¥3.30 in 2026. It looks like analyst sentiment has declined substantially, with a substantial drop in revenue estimates and a large cut to earnings per share numbers as well.

It'll come as no surprise then, to learn that the analysts have cut their price target 33% to CN¥45.94. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. Currently, the most bullish analyst values Shanghai Chicmax Cosmetic at CN¥79.34 per share, while the most bearish prices it at CN¥17.55. As you can see the range of estimates is wide, with the lowest valuation coming in at less than half the most bullish estimate, suggesting there are some strongly diverging views on how think this business will perform. As a result it might not be possible to derive much meaning from the consensus price target, which is after all just an average of this wide range of estimates.
Looking at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can make sense of these forecasts is to see how they measure up against both past performance and industry growth estimates. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 1.9% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2026. That is a notable change from historical growth of 32% over the last three years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 14% annually for the foreseeable future. It's pretty clear that Shanghai Chicmax Cosmetic's revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.
The most important thing to take away is that analysts cut their earnings per share estimates, expecting a clear decline in business conditions. Regrettably, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, and the latest forecasts imply the business will grow sales slower than the wider market. Given the scope of the downgrades, it would not be a surprise to see the market become more wary of the business.
