US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright issued an emergency order today requiring the Orlando Utilities Commission to ensure that Unit 1 of the Stanton Energy Center in Orlando, Florida remains operational. The US Department of Energy made a related statement in a statement. The statement said that Unit 1 of this coal-fired power plant was originally scheduled to enter a long-term cold shutdown state early in June 2026. The order took effect on September 2 and is valid until November 30.
