According to the Istanbul Governor's Office, at around 3 a.m. local time on September 2, two merchant ships flying the Turkish flag collided in the waters off Istanbul in the Marmara Sea. The location of the incident was about 18 nautical miles south of Silivri. After the accident occurred, the Turkish coast guard dispatched several ships and a helicopter to the scene. Preliminary inspection revealed no apparent damage to the merchant ship named “ALSU”. Currently, rescuers have not been able to get in touch with another merchant ship “TUBERK İMAMOğLU” and the 10 crew members on board. The search and rescue work is ongoing.
