The Zhitong Finance App learned that Citigroup (C.US) announced plans to increase the number of employees in its corporate banking business division in North Asia and Japan by about 25%. At the same time, exclusive bankers will also be added at 6 locations around the world. Citi said the additional investment will be invested in South America, Europe and parts of Asia to support related business activities for corporate customers headquartered in Japan, South Korea, mainland China and Taiwan.

Additionally, Citi announced the expansion of its dedicated Chinese business unit network and the addition of new hubs in Brazil and Europe. Citi established a new Korean business unit in Chicago in early 2026. Citi said that these business units are expected to support multinational enterprises to expand into overseas markets and provide them with banking, market and service products. Products include finance, foreign exchange and hedging, payments, cash management, and trade finance.

Zhuo Jianxun Toh, head of corporate banking at Citibank JANA (Japan, North Asia and Australia), said the move stemmed from Citi seeing strong customer growth across multiple corridors connecting the North Asian and Japanese markets to the global market. “These investments reflect our commitment to our customers and will further invest to support their growth and expansion.”
