Hong Kong Land Registry: The total value of property sales contracts of $44.5 billion in August fell 6.8% year on year

The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Hong Kong Land Registry published statistics for August 2026. A total of 5,768 property sales contracts of all types were submitted for registration with the Land Registry in August (down 14.1% from July and 10.7% compared with August last year). Based on the 12-month moving average, the number of building sales contracts in August was 7,718 (down 0.7% from July and up 26.2% compared with August last year). The total value of building sales contracts in August was $44.5 billion (down 14.0% from July and 6.8% compared with August last year).

Among the above sales contracts, residential property sales contracts accounted for 4,019 (down 9.9% from July, and 24.0% compared with August last year). The total value of residential property sales contracts in August was $36.2 billion (down 13.6% from July and 14.2% compared with August last year).

Statistics on residential property sales do not include residential transactions under plans such as homeowners owning homes, private institutions participating in the construction of houses, and renters buying homes, etc., unless the relevant unit has expired and the difference in price has been compensated. The number of public searches in August was 1 749 770 (up 19.3% from July and 350.1% compared with August last year).
