The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Hang Seng Index published an article stating that the Hong Kong stock market (represented by the Hang Seng Composite Index) fell 0.8% in August. The Hang Seng Index and Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 1.2% and 1.1% respectively, while the Hang Seng Index and Hang Seng Index Volatility Index fell 15% and 16% respectively to 18 and 20.
The Hang Seng Technology Index, which tracks leading technology companies listed in Hong Kong, fell 4.3% in August.
The Hang Seng Biotech Index tracks large biotech companies listed in Hong Kong and rose 11.7% in August.
The Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect China 500 Index, which reflects the performance of the 500 largest listed companies in Hong Kong and the Mainland, recorded a 0.1% increase in August. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng A Share Connect 300 Index, which reflects the performance of the 300 largest listed companies in the Mainland, recorded an increase of 0.6%.
In the Hang Seng Composite Index industry index, the raw materials industry performed well in August (+11.0%), while essential consumption performed poorly (-6.1%).
In the Hang Seng Index series, the Hang Seng Hong Kong Stock Connect AI Infrastructure Index performed best (+17.3%), followed by Hang Seng A-share Copper Industry Index (+15.7%) and Hang Seng A-share Electronic Components Index (+14.1%).
Within the thematic index series, the Hang Seng Hong Kong Stock Connect Innovative Drugs and Healthcare Index performed well in the Hong Kong market (+9.4%); while the Hang Seng Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong Technology Select 50 Index performed well in the Mainland and across markets (+9.6%).
In the ESG Index series, the Hang Seng Sustainable Enterprises Index performed well in the Hong Kong market (+0.5%); the Hang Seng A-share Sustainability Benchmark Index performed well in the Mainland and across markets (+1.5%).
In the factor index series, the Hang Seng Large and Medium Cap Size All-Choice Index, which tracks the “size” factor, fell 0.1% in August, superior to all other factors in the Hong Kong market. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng A-share Full Choice Index (+4.1%) performed well in the mainland market.
The Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect Greater Bay Area Composite Index rose 1.5%.
As of August 31, the total asset management value of products passively tracking the Hang Seng Index series was approximately US$108.93 billion (-3.3%). The total asset management value of exchange-traded products linked to the Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng China Enterprise Index and Hang Seng Technology Index is approximately US$21.6 billion (-3.1%), US$8 billion (+0.2%), and US$38.2 billion (-5.1%), respectively.
