Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abell said that the rise in Japanese bond yields had no impact on major Japanese trading companies in which the company holds shares. Abel said that although Japan's high yield is currently a hot topic of market attention, Japan's 10-year treasury bond yield has hit the highest level in 30 years this week, but at least for the country's major trading companies, this situation is still within manageable limits. “Currently, no trading company sees this as a fundamental challenge.” He added that Japanese bond yields “are still relatively moderate in absolute terms,” and pointed out that although Japanese yields have been high for decades, they are still low compared to other global bond yields. Abell also said that despite the high yield on Japanese bonds, he expects Berkshire to still finance by issuing yen bonds under appropriate circumstances.
