Hogs Post Midweek Strength

Lean hog futures closed with contracts 12 to 65 cents higher on Wednesday. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $89.52 on Wednesday afternoon, down $2.11 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 28 cents on August 31 at $90.58.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back down $2.28 in the Wednesday PM report, at $95.62. The loin was the only primal reported higher. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Wednesday at 476,000 head, with the week to date total at 1.416 million head. That is 1,000 head above the previous week.

Oct 26 Hogs  closed at $83.775, up $0.125,

Dec 26 Hogs  closed at $74.325, up $0.325

Feb 27 Hogs  closed at $76.875, up $0.600,
