On September 3, local time, Total Energy announced the completion of a deal with Galp in December 2025 to acquire 40% of the operating rights of the Namibian PEL83 license. The block contains the giant Mopane oil and gas discovery. Total Energy will hold 40%, 40%, 10%, and 10% interests with Galp, Namcor, and Custos, respectively. Total Energy said that the company has now become the operator of two major oil discoveries in Namibia, and plans to launch Mopane evaluation drilling in the second half of 2026 and implement a plan for 3 evaluation wells, with the goal of making a final investment decision in 2028.
