The United Nations Environment Programme released a report on the 2nd saying that it is inevitable that global warming will exceed the 1.5 degree Celsius threshold in the next few years. The report called for measures to limit the extent and duration of warming above this threshold and push it back to 1.5 degrees Celsius as soon as possible. The report warns that a warming of more than 1.5 degrees Celsius may increase extreme weather, damage ecosystems, and threaten human health and social and economic development. Currently, the most optimistic forecast shows that when global warming reaches its peak, the temperature will be 1.8 degrees Celsius higher than pre-industrial levels.
