Today, the Ministry of Education held a press conference in Beijing to introduce the situation relating to the construction of China's teaching force and the 42nd Teacher's Day celebration. A relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Education said that the theme for this year's Teacher's Day is “vigorously promoting the spirit of educators and building a culture of respecting teachers and valuing education.” Currently, there are 18.7 million people's teachers in the country. China has expanded the implementation of the “National Merit Program” to attract more high-level universities to participate in teacher education. The first 9,300 graduates of the “Excellent Teacher Program” took root in poverty-alleviation counties and the central and western frontier regions to teach.
