Argentina's presidential palace issued a statement on September 4 saying that according to President Millet's instructions, the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated administrative punishment procedures against 45 entities suspected of carrying out oil and gas exploration and extraction activities in the Malvinas Islands, including natural persons and legal entities. The statement said that the targets of punishment include not only companies suspected of illegally carrying out oil and gas activities on the Argentine continental shelf, but also shareholders of related companies and companies providing services to them. The Argentine Government reaffirmed that the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia Islands and South Sandwich Islands and their associated maritime and island space belong to Argentina, and stated that the Arab side will not relinquish its sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands and will prosecute those who infringe and profit from its sovereignty.
