South Korea's Customs Service announced on Saturday that due to strong global demand for artificial intelligence chips, South Korea's exports have reached 709.4 billion US dollars so far this year, surpassing the historical record for the whole of last year. Specifically, from January to August of this year, semiconductor exports reached 281 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 169.6%, accounting for 41% of South Korea's total exports. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the world's leading memory chip manufacturers, are both located in Korea. Affected by the boom in artificial intelligence investment exacerbating the shortage of chip supply, chip prices have risen sharply, and two companies have benefited from this. South Korea's second-largest export commodity is passenger cars, and overseas shipments fell 4% year on year from January to August.
