Those following along with Cybin Inc. (NASDAQ:HELP) will no doubt be intrigued by the recent purchase of shares by Eric So, Co-Founder of the company, who spent a stonking US$1.1m on stock at an average price of US$11.81. There's no denying a buy of that magnitude suggests conviction in a brighter future, although we do note that proportionally it only increased their holding by 2.2%.
In fact, the recent purchase by Eric So was the biggest purchase of Cybin shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is US$12.22. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. Happily, the Cybin insiders decided to buy shares at close to current prices.
Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 185.00k shares worth US$2.2m. But they sold 252.97k shares for US$1.8m. Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It's great to see that Cybin insiders own 14% of the company, worth about US$118m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
The recent insider purchases are heartening. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. Once you factor in the high insider ownership, it certainly seems like insiders are positive about Cybin. That's what I like to see!
