UK's Ofcom Allows BT Group's Openreach to Update Wholesale Prices of Certain Copper Connections

05:04 AM EDT, 09/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Office of Communications, or Ofcom, allowed BT Group's (BT-A.L) network infrastructure unit Openreach to update the wholesale prices of copper connections as part of an ongoing transition to full fiber broadband services. In a decision published Wednesday, Ofcom said Openreach may alter copper line rates in areas where full fiber or ultrafast broadband is available to 100% of the premises beginning April 1, 2029. The copper price cap will remain in place if full fiber is not available, while the lifting of the cap would result in the application of charge control to full fiber connections. The phased deregulation of copper infrastructure at Openreach has been in motion since 2021.
