Japan previously used its national strategic oil reserves to cushion the impact of the US-Iran conflict, and now plans to make up for these reserves. According to documents first published at the end of August, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has allocated 385 billion yen for crude oil procurement for the fiscal year to begin in April next year. In the same way as other developed countries coped, the Japanese government used reserve stocks to deal with the crisis while turning to other sources of supply. Before the war in the Middle East broke out, over 90% of Japan's crude oil imports came from the Middle East region, making the country extremely vulnerable to supply disruptions. After the release of reserves, as of September 6, Japan's strategic oil reserves can meet domestic demand for 103 days; before the conflict broke out, the reserve could meet domestic demand for 146 days.
