Broader range of strengths, flavors, and formats is designed to help legal-age adult nicotine consumers find an option that fits their preferences
STAMFORD, Conn., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. businesses of Philip Morris International (PMI U.S.) today highlighted the continued expansion of the ZYN portfolio, giving legal-age adult nicotine consumers a broader range of smoke-free options across nicotine strengths, flavors, moisture levels, and pouch formats. The portfolio includes the flagship ZYN dry pouch lineup, now expanding to include 1.5 mg and 8 mg strengths, and ZYN ULTRA, an oral nicotine pouch with higher moisture content that, like ZYN, is free of tobacco leaf.

Together, these products recognize that preferences are not one-size-fits-all: Legal-age adults looking to switch from cigarettes or other nicotine products should be provided with options, including a range of different nicotine levels, flavor profiles, and formats. Individual preferences can vary based on a range of factors, including the type of tobacco or nicotine product the adult is transitioning away from.
"Forty-five million legal-age Americans use nicotine. PMI U.S. is committed to expanding our range of less harmful smoke-free products so that no adult ever smokes another cigarette because they can't find a suitable alternative," said Stacey Kennedy, CEO of PMI U.S. "Consumer choice matters. And we will continue to innovate to ensure we provide a portfolio of products that meet legal-age adults' diverse preferences so they can move away, and stay away, from combustible cigarettes. ZYN's growing portfolio is an important example of how innovation, choice, and credible information can work together to support that transition."
In January 2025, ZYN became the first nicotine pouch authorized for sale in the United States following a comprehensive scientific review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Subsequently, in June 2026, the FDA issued modified risk tobacco product (MRTP) orders for 20 ZYN nicotine pouch products, making ZYN the first and only nicotine pouch to receive modified risk orders, which authorize PMI U.S. to communicate to adults that "Using ZYN instead of cigarettes puts you at a lower risk of mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis."
Building on those milestones, PMI U.S. is expanding its flagship ZYN dry pouch lineup to include 1.5 mg and 8 mg options, in addition to the current 3 mg and 6 mg strengths. Offering a range of nicotine strengths helps ensure legal-age nicotine consumers can choose an option that aligns with their preferences.
PMI U.S. has also introduced ZYN ULTRA, a moist oral nicotine pouch designed to provide a differentiated user experience. In August 2026, the FDA issued marketing granted orders (MGO) authorizing the marketing of 11 ZYN ULTRA products, including ten 9 mg strengths and one 11 mg strength. The agency's action adds to PMI U.S.'s portfolio of science-backed alternatives for legal-age adults who smoke or use other traditional oral tobacco products.
In Q4, PMI U.S. will further align the value proposition across the ZYN portfolio with the transition of its 3 mg and 6 mg dry pouch variants to 20 pouches per can, a package size that research indicates is preferred by legal-age nicotine consumers.
PMI U.S. actively supports responsible marketing practices and strong measures to prevent underage access. ZYN products are intended only for adults aged 21 and older who smoke or use another nicotine product.
ZYN is manufactured in the United States. In addition to operations in Owensboro, Kentucky, PMI U.S. recently opened its Aurora, Colorado, manufacturing campus, a 148-acre, approximately 780,000-square-foot facility that began commercial production in July 2026 and produces ZYN nicotine pouches.
