The Zhitong Finance App learned that on Friday, gold stocks were higher at the beginning of the market. Harmony Gold (HMY.US) rose more than 3%, Eagle Mining (AEM.US) and Coldaren Mining (CDE.US) rose more than 2%, and Jintian (GFI.US) and Kinross Gold (KGC.US) rose more than 1%. As the August CPI just announced by the US Department of Labor showed that the core inflation data exceeded expectations, the market's expectations for the Fed to raise interest rates next week have further heated up. Excluding food and energy prices, the core CPI rose 0.3% month-on-month, higher than market expectations of 0.2%, and recorded the biggest monthly increase since April this year. After the report was released, interest rate market bets on the Fed's interest rate hike in September rose further. The probability of a 25 basis point rate hike once rose from about 70% before the data was released to close to 90%, then fell back to around 80%.
