EU Advances Free Trade Deal with India

11:24 AM EDT, 09/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission advanced its landmark free trade agreement with India to the approval stage by presenting its proposals to the European Council for authorization. Following the Council's approval, the trade deal will come into force once the European Parliament grants its consent while India completes its own ratification process, according to a Friday release. The agreement includes the removal or reduction of tariffs on 96% of EU goods exports to India and better access for European companies to the Indian market, among others.
