SK Hynix (SKHY.US) responds to rumors with Intel making chips in the US: it has not been finalized

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on Wednesday, SK Hynix (SKHY.US) responded to the rumor with Intel (INTC.US) in the US, saying “it has not been finalized.” SK Hynix did not deny discussions between the two sides, but said it is still evaluating various plans to expand the scale of production.

Earlier, it was reported that SK Hynix is negotiating a deal with Intel. If successful, it will produce memory chips in the US for the first time. One potential solution is for SK Hynix to rent part of Intel's long-term planned fab facility in Ohio; the other is to establish joint ventures with Intel and major cloud vendors that are anxious to lock in the supply of memory chips.

SK Hynix said in a statement that the company is “reviewing various measures, including establishing additional production sites, to enhance the competitiveness of the storage business,” but added that “no matters have been determined at this stage.”

SK Hynix also said, “We would like to clarify that any specific company mentioned in the report has not yet been finalized to cooperate or produce memory chips in the US.”

According to reports, Intel declined to comment on the so-called “speculation,” but added that the company is still promoting investment in Ohio to prepare for the opening of the factory site.

Before the US stock market on Wednesday, as of press release, Intel was up 2.8% and SK Hynix was up 3.3%.
