People familiar with the matter said that Apple has been advancing plans to develop its own chip enterprise server. This server may be equipped with Nvidia's network equipment. The Mac manufacturer wanted to seize the opportunity of a surge in market demand for its AI computers. Sources said that Apple is developing the server and plans to sell it to AI developers, other businesses, and government customers. The product currently under consideration includes two versions: the smaller version integrates the two M8 Ultra chips planned by Apple to form a cluster; the larger version is equipped with four M8 Ultra chips. The M-series Ultra is Apple's most powerful chip, and products such as the Mac Studio all use this series of chips. According to people familiar with the matter, Apple is considering using Nvidia's suite of products called NVLink Fusion to interconnect M8 chips in servers. This set of products includes switches, small chips, and supporting software for inter-chip communication in data centers. If cooperation is implemented, it will further ease the long-standing cold relationship between the two tech giants. The relationship between the two sides has only recently begun to show signs of recovery. According to current expectations, this Apple product will only be launched in 2029 at the earliest. There is still a possibility that the project will be terminated, or it may continue without using Nvidia technology. Some people familiar with the matter revealed that Apple's new CEO John Turners, who just took office at the beginning of this month, was already a supporter of the project when he was in charge of Apple's hardware engineering department about a year ago.
