What Happened?

Shares of electricity generation and hydrogen production company Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) jumped 4.3% in the morning session after the company published a report demonstrating that its 800V DC-native fuel cell architecture can cut capital expenditures and operating costs for AI data centers.

In a company press release, Bloom Energy highlighted that its 800V direct-current-native fuel cell architecture can reduce non-compute capital expenditures for a one-gigawatt AI data center by $3.6 billion, representing a 27% savings compared to traditional alternating-current systems. Additionally, the architecture is projected to lower five-year total cost of ownership by $5.5 billion, or 9%. The design also cuts overall power use and eliminates the need for transformers, addressing key energy and infrastructure bottlenecks facing expanding AI computing facilities.

The shares were trading at $271.09, up 4.5% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Bloom Energy’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 103 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 8 days ago when the stock gained 11.2% on the news that news that the company will join the S&P 500 index on September 21. Inclusion in the benchmark index typically increases demand for a company's shares, as index-tracking funds and exchange-traded funds adjust their holdings to reflect the updated index composition. Adding to the momentum, Hitachi announced a collaboration with Bloom Energy to deliver fuel cell-based on-site electricity generation systems targeting data centers and industrial clients in Japan per TipRanks.

Bloom Energy is up 175% since the beginning of the year, but at $271.09 per share, it is still trading 21.6% below its 52-week high of $345.85 from June 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Bloom Energy’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $14,276.

ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who’s building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody’s paying attention.

AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won’t last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice.
