Wheat Posts Late Strength to Close Wednesday Higher

The wheat complex rounded out the Wednesday session, with the three exchanges pushing higher. Chicago SRW contracts closed with contracts 1 ½ to 6 ½ cents in the green. KC HRW futures were 1 to 5 cents in the green at the close. MPLS spring wheat saw strength, with contracts up 2 ½ to 7 ½ cents.

Export Sales data will be updated on Thursday morning, as analysts surveyed by Reuters are looking for bookings between 150,000 and 500,000 MT in the week ending on September 10.

Canadian wheat production for 2026/27 is estimated at 36.12 MMT, down 10.9% from last year, with spring wheat dropping 10.9% to 26.452 MMT according to Stats Canada data.

The FranceAgriMer estimates the French exports outside the EU at 6.3 MMT, down 0.7 MMT from their previous number, with exports within the EU at 7.1 MMT, down 0.3 MMT. They also estimate the French wheat ending stocks down 0.65 MMT to 3 MMT. 

Ukraine’s ag ministry estimates the 2027 winter wheat acreage at 4.5 million hectares (11.12 million acres), down 200,000 ha (490,000 acres) from last year. 

SovEcon estimates the combined wheat exports from Russia and Ukraine in the July through September period to total 8 MMT, which would be shy of the 16.4 MMT in the same period last year.
