According to the quarterly capital flow report issued by the Bank of Japan, by the end of June, Japanese household assets had increased 11% over the same period last year, to a record 2,519 trillion yen, driven by rising stock prices. Household stock assets jumped 47% to 486 trillion yen due to rising stock values. Household cash and deposit balances increased by 0.5% to reach 1,132 trillion yen of 46.7% of outstanding Japanese government bonds held by the Bank of Japan, the lowest ratio since the second quarter of 2019. Foreign investors hold 7.9% of Japan's treasury bonds.
