Things You Should Know

Listen to the news

The government makes me say this: Past results are not indicative of future results. Consider this carefully before investing.

Now that we’ve got the legal stuff out of the way, let me show you something I think you should be watching.

First, notice the date I marked here: September 11th, with a question mark and an arrow. That arrow is important.

As I move this chart back over the past year, I want you to notice a pattern. Roughly every 60 days, around the middle of the month, November soybeans have made a turn.

Go back to September 16th of last year and follow those turns forward. January 14th was a low, but six of the last seven turns have been followed by a decline in the soybean market.

The smallest of those declines was in March, at a little over 5%.

So—and notice I said if—if September 11th marked this cycle’s turn, coming about four days earlier than the typical mid-month timing, a similar 5% decline would equal roughly 66 cents off that high. That would put November soybeans back around the $12.70 area.

We’ll see what happens, but this is something I think you should know and be watching.
