On September 17, local time, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on arrangements for the participation of the State of Palestine during the 81st session of the General Assembly. Against the backdrop of the US refusing to issue visas to Palestinian President Abbas and some Palestinian officials, the General Assembly decided to allow the Palestinian side to participate in relevant UN meetings through video conferences or pre-recorded speeches. The draft resolution received 152 votes in support, 3 against, and 4 abstentions; China voted in favour. According to the resolution, the General Assembly expressed regret that the United States denied or revoked visas to representatives of the State of Palestine before the 81st session of the General Assembly, and urged that the relevant decisions be rescinded immediately. The resolution stated that representatives of the State of Palestine should be able to personally attend relevant meetings at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
