Insider Buyers At NextTrip Recover Some Losses, But Still Down US$36k

Listen to the news

Some of the losses seen by insiders who purchased US$100.1k worth of NextTrip, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTRP) shares over the past year were recovered after the stock increased by 21% over the past week. However, the purchase is proving to be an expensive wager as insiders are yet to get ahead of their losses which currently stand at US$36k since the time of purchase.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

NextTrip Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Director David Jiang bought US$50k worth of shares at a price of US$2.75 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$1.76 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

In the last twelve months NextTrip insiders were buying shares, but not selling. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Does NextTrip Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that NextTrip insiders own 40% of the company, worth about US$11m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
