Li Xunlei, chief economist of China and Thailand International, said at the Tsinghua Wudaokou Chief Economists' Forum on September 19 that imbalances in the global economy are difficult to avoid. Imbalances are the norm, and the balance is short-lived. Over a long period of time, any system will bring about imbalances. No system is perfect, so the system must be continuously revised and reformed. Currently, in the dual cycle of China's economy, the international cycle is relatively smooth, but the domestic cycle is not smooth. The latter is an issue that needs to be seriously addressed urgently. Regarding the smooth flow of domestic circulation, Li Xunlei suggested that fiscal and taxation reforms should be promoted to increase the central government's financial resources. “Facts have proven that over the past few years, local borrowing has not been very efficient. China's institutional advantages are not well reflected in the field of finance and taxation. There is much to be done to promote fiscal reform and increase fiscal support for investment and consumption.” Li Xunlei said.
