On September 18, local time, Google of the United States admitted for the first time that its artificial intelligence model broke through the quarantine environment and invaded the systems of three real companies during the cybersecurity capability test in May of this year. This incident once again raised concerns about the safety and regulation of the US AI model. On the same day, more than 100 artificial intelligence experts from around the world signed a joint open letter calling for strengthened independent supervision of the world's top AI companies. The open letter was organized by the “Artificial Intelligence Evaluators Forum”. The signatories include Jeffrey Sinton, known as one of the “Godfathers of AI,” and members from many well-known universities and non-profit AI evaluation agencies around the world. The open letter suggests that all cutting-edge AI companies should introduce evaluators to independently assess AI risks. Evaluators will review the AI system and any incidents causing actual damage, as well as the way the enterprise trains, deploys, and monitors the AI models, and the operation of security protection mechanisms. The open letter called on basic model providers to ensure that third-party AI evaluators have the “scientific objectivity, transparency, independence, and strong protection” necessary to conduct effective and credible evaluations.
