Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Profound Medical Corp. (TSE:PRN) President, Richard Fabian, recently bought CA$84k worth of stock, for CA$8.37 per share. Although the purchase is not a big one, by either a percentage standpoint or absolute value, it can be seen as a good sign.
The Chairman of the Board & CEO Arun Menawat made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$140k worth of shares at a price of CA$6.99 each. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of CA$8.31. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.
While Profound Medical insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. The average buy price was around CA$8.96. This is nice to see since it implies that insiders might see value around current prices. I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 2.8% of Profound Medical shares, worth about CA$8.6m, according to our data. Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!
It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchases. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. On this analysis the only slight negative we see is the fairly low (overall) insider ownership; their transactions suggest that they are quite positive on Profound Medical stock. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
