Google Faces EUR403 Million Fine in Ireland Over Location Data Processing Practices

06:03 AM EDT, 09/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (ABEA.F) Google was fined 403 million euros by Ireland's Data Protection Commission following an inquiry into how the search engine processes location data. The regulator said Monday its final decision for Google Ireland covered the May 2018 to February 2020 period. It found the tech giant to have infringed on certain aspects of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, such as transparency and retention of location data. Google, which was ordered to comply within six months, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
