12:11 PM EDT, 09/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Norwegian Environment Agency, or Miljødirektoratet, awarded 1.3 million additional free emission allowances to Elkem (ELK.OL) for the 2021 to 2025 period, according to a Monday release. The extra allowances, under the European Union's Emissions Trading System, follow the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment's July 2025 conclusion that Norwegian silicon, ferrosilicon and manganese producers received unequal treatment in the implementation of the ETS rules compared with their EU counterparts. The metals and materials company's plants in Bjølvefossen, Bremanger, Rana, Salten, and Thamshavn will receive allowances in line with the EU allocation for the 2026 to 2030 period.
