Artificial intelligence pioneer Li Feifei called for more supervision of AI technology by independent and public sector entities, arguing that safety assessments of increasingly powerful AI systems should not be the sole responsibility of the companies developing these systems. Li Feifei, a professor at Stanford University and co-founder of World Labs, said on Tuesday that although researchers within AI companies can measure the efficacy and safety attributes of individual models, this does not replace broader standards set by the government, industry, and academic institutions. In an interview with the media, Li Feifei said, “I still believe in the importance of independent agencies and public sector institutions such as academia setting benchmarks, as well as the importance of industry and government sharing responsibilities.”
