The bill was previously approved by the House of Representatives in June of this year. The bill authorizes the Italian government to develop an overall legal framework in the field of nuclear energy, including formulating a national sustainable nuclear energy development plan, regulating the construction and operation of new nuclear facilities, decommissioning existing facilities, radioactive waste and spent fuel management, and improving relevant approval, safety supervision, and environmental protection systems. The Italian government said that the purpose of developing next-generation nuclear energy technology is to diversify the energy structure, reduce dependence on fossil energy, and improve energy security. Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security Fratin said a few days ago that according to the current plan, Italy may achieve nuclear power generation as early as 2033 to 2034.
