Surf Air Mobility (SRFM) shares ripped higher on Wednesday after the regional air mobility firm announced a major commercial win.
In its press release, management said the company has signed a definitive agreement to deploy its proprietary OperatorOS flight operations platform with SkyDance Air.
Despite today’s rally, Surf Air Mobility stock is down more than 50% in the year to date.
The rollout of OperatorOS to SkyDance Air marks Surf Air Mobility’s second commercial deal for the platform.
Built via a software partnership with Palantir (PLTR), OperatorOS helps Part 135 charter operators streamline crew scheduling, flight management, and compliance.
Investors are cheering SRFM shares today primarily because the company will receive a recurring percentage of revenue for every SkyDance flight processed on its software.
With SkyDance operating as North America’s second-largest single-fleet Cirrus Vision Jet operator and planning to expand its fleet from three to 10 aircraft by 2027, this contract offers high-margin software revenue that supports Surf Air’s goal of signing five commercial operators by the end of 2026.
While the SkyDance deal is largely a positive development, buying Surf Air Mobility shares today carries immense risk.
At a per-share price of less than a dollar, SRFM remains a penny stock prone to excessive volatility and pump and dump behavior.
The NYSE-listed firm is yet to turn a profit, having recorded a net loss exceeding $112 million in the trailing 12 months.
Crucially, early stage micro-cap companies in capital-intensive sectors like regional aviation often rely on secondary equity offerings to fund cash burn, which can quickly wipe out short-term gains.
In short, unless Surf Air demonstrates consistent profitability or substantial recurring revenue from its software ecosystem, investors should avoid chasing this news-driven spike.
On the flip side, a handful of analysts who currently cover SRFM stock rate it “Moderate Buy” as of writing.
Their mean price target sits at $5.19 currently indicating Surf Air Mobility Inc could more than 5x from here over the next 12 months.
