The US Department of Energy will announce a nearly $2 billion investment plan on Thursday to tap the power supply potential of America's old and increasingly stressed power grid. The funding will be used for 31 projects covering 26 states and is expected to add more than 23 gigawatts of electricity transmission capacity, which is equivalent to meeting the electricity needs of 16 million households.
