On September 28, Jin Yuzhi, senior vice president of Huawei, CEO of smart car solutions BU, and CEO of Jinwang Company, responded to the topic “Is the money of car companies being earned by Huawei” in an interview with media including First Finance. He said that Huawei hopes to reach win-win cooperation with car companies. Currently, competition in the domestic car market is fierce, and all car companies are exploring ways to profit and survive. Jin Yuzhi specifically suggested that car companies and parts suppliers need deep collaboration and cooperation; not all aspects must choose self-research. In his opinion, before car companies plan to develop their own smart driving systems, they need to carefully calculate costs. “In particular, for models under 200,000, some car companies think it is difficult to control costs and maintain operations without self-development. In the face of fierce competition, car companies first wanted to cut costs, and self-development became a priority option. However, if car companies were to invest several billion dollars or even tens of billion dollars to develop their own smart driving systems, many car companies would sell less than 1 million vehicles a year, spread out flat on bicycles, and the cost of the software system alone would be several thousand yuan. This system also requires continuous iteration, superposition of related investments such as hardware and domain control, etc., and the model developed by car companies themselves is not economical.”
