UK Tribunal Greenlights Consumer Lawsuit Against Apple, Amazon

07:32 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK Competition Appeal Tribunal allowed part of a consumer claim against Apple (APC.F) and Amazon (AMZ.F) to proceed, according to a Monday ruling. The lawsuit brought by JLP A&A Class Representative after an earlier filing from Christine Riefa Class Representative was rejected by the tribunal. It claims that the iPhone maker and the e-commerce giant breached competition law in 2018 by restricting third parties from reselling Apple and Beats products on Amazon, resulting in higher retail prices. The tribunal found it "just and reasonable" to authorize the on-Amazon claim, but refused the appeal covering products bought from outside the Amazon marketplace, citing "insufficiently coherent theories of harm and an inadequately developed methodology." Apple and Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
