Listen to the news

Viewing insider transactions for ASK Automotive Limited's (NSE:ASKAUTOLTD ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net sellers. This means that a larger number of shares were sold by insiders in relation to shares purchased.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At ASK Automotive

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Chairman & MD, Kuldip Rathee, sold ₹3.7b worth of shares at a price of ₹472 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of ₹620, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 12% of Kuldip Rathee's holding. Kuldip Rathee was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that ASK Automotive insiders own 75% of the company, worth about ₹92b. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At ASK Automotive Tell Us?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded ASK Automotive shares in the last quarter. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the ASK Automotive insiders selling. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
